BRATISLAVA: Ten projects were showcased at the Works in Progress session during Bratislava Industry Days at Febiofest IFF, of which three received awards. The 30th International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava was held 15 – 19 March 2023.

BRATISLAVA: Polish short film The Fence / Płot by Tomasz Wolski was awarded Best Film in the Short Films section and the UK/Czech/Croatian drama Butterfly Vision by Maxym Nakonečnyj was awarded Best Film in the Long Films section of the In the Heart of Europe Competition at the 30th edition of the International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava (15 – 19 March 2023).

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech dark comedy Invalid by Jonáš Karásek holds the first place in the Slovak charts even after five weeks of screening. The film has become the most successful film of 2023 so far, with a total of 132,020 admissions and 984,853 EUR gross.

BRATISLAVA: In addition to the usual 20 short films from neighbouring countries, the In the Heart of Europe competition section of the 30th International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava will add for the first time a long films competition with 10 fiction, animated, documentary and experimental films. The festival will take place 15 – 19 March 2023.

BRATISLAVA: The acclaimed Slovak director Jaro Vojtek is currently in postproduction with his new documentary The Third End of the Stick / Tretí koniec palice. The  film is produced by 500 civil association and coproduced by RTVS.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech/ Macedonian drama The Ballad of Piargy by Ivo Trajkov leads the 12th Sun in a Net awards nominations with 16 nods, followed by Slovak/Czech The Nightsiren / Svetlonoc by Tereza Nvotová with nine nominations. The awards will be announced on 15 April 2023.

BRATISLAVA: FNE spoke with Slovak producer Peter Badač, the new director of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, about the first steps he intends to take and his priorities for the next five-year period in the office.

BRATISLAVA: Total admissions in Slovak cinemas increased by 112.73% in 2022 and admissions to domestic films increased from 201,629 in 2021 to 552,409 in 2022, according to the Union of the Slovak Distributors.

BRATISLAVA: After the successful domestic release of the Slovak/Czech long animated film The Websters Movie by Katarína Kerekesová in October 2022, the stories of the Webster family are now entering the German market through the distribution company OneGate Media GmbH.

BRATISLAVA: With her fourth feature film She - Hero / Mimi (cesta hrdinky), which will have its world premiere in the Generation Kplus section of the 73rd Berlinale, the acclaimed Slovak director Mira Fornay wants to spread the message about the importance of nature for human society.
