BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech comedy Invalid by Jonáš Karásek was the most attended title in Slovak cinemas in the first half of 2023. The total box office exceeded the box office of the entire year 2021.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak historical TV miniseries Time of Hopes / Čas nádejí directed by Ján Sebechlebský and produced by the Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) and ARINA Film production, is currently in postproduction.

KOŠICE: The Belgian/French drama Love According to Dalva directed by Emmanuelle Nicot won the Blue Angel, the main prize in the International Competition of the 29th Art Film Fest Košice. The festival took place 16 – 23 June 2023.

BRATISLAVA: Comedy TV series Pressburg directed by Csaba Molnár has entered postproduction. The eight-episode series about the linguistic diversity of Bratislava is produced by Slovakia’s Pressburg Partners Production and coproduced by the Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS).

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director  Jaro Vojtek is currently in production with his sophomore feature Anaesthesia / Anestéza, produced by Mátyás Prikler´s MPhilms and coproduced by the Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS).

KOŠICE: Nine films will compete for the main prize, the Blue Angel, in the International competition of the 29th Art Film Fest Košice, which will take place 16 – 23 June 2023. The festival is returning in full strength after a one year-break, as the last year´s edition was cancelled by the organisers due to insufficient funds.

BRATISLAVA: The most awards during the 12th ceremony of the Sun in a Net awards gala went to the Slovak/Czech/ Macedonian drama The Ballad of Piargy / Piargy, which won in 11 categories among 16 nominations. Nevertheless, the awards for Best Feature Film and Best Director were given to Michal Blaško‘s debut feature Victim / Obeť.

BRATISLAVA: The 9th edition of the Slovak Film Week, the annual showcase of domestic titles, will take place in Bratislava 17 - 23 April 2023. Unlike 2022, only the titles nominated for the main Sun in a Net National Award will be screened this year.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech thriller MIKI by Jakub Kroner, which is currently in production, tells the story of the infamous mafia mobster Mikuláš Černák, based on true events from the 90´s. Milan Ondrík plays the main character.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director, screenwriter and professor Stanislav Párnický died on 31 March 2023, at the age of 77. He started as a director for theatre and television, later as a director of feature films for cinemas, and for many years he passed on his experience to film students at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.
