VILNIUS: Marija Kavtaradzė, one of the most promising young Lithuanian directors and scriptwriters, will start shooting her debut feature Summer Survivors / Vasara on 24 August 2017.
VILNIUS: Acclaimed film, theatre and TV director Raimundas Banionis is returning to film directing after 25 years with The Purple Fog / Purpurinis rūkas. This historical drama is currently in production with theatrical release set for 2018.
VILNIUS: Lithuanian Film Centre distributed 811,701 EUR to 21 film projects in production and preproduction, including five minority coproductions with France, Italy, Russia and for the first time with Georgia and Cyprus.
VILNIUS: A creative documentary by director Saulius Beržinis, Greimas. The System of Bolts / Greimas. Varžtų sistema is in production. Principle photography began in April 2017 and will wrap in February 2018. Some shooting already took place in Lithuania, but the principal shooting will be in France (Paris and Chause), where people who knew Greimas are still alive.
VILNIUS: Andrius Blaževičius‘ feature film The Saint / Šventasis dominated the Lithuanian Film and TV Silver Crane Awards,winning in six categories. The film took the Best Feature, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress and Best Script at the tenth edition of the awards held on 13 June 2017.
VILNIUS: A partially animated feature documentary The L-Team / L-Komanda by director Andrius Lekavicius is in production. Principle photography in Lithuania began on 15 May 2017 and will wrap at the end of the summer, but production will continue with animated parts of the film.
VILNIUS: The Jump / Šuolis, a creative documentary by director Giedrė Žickytė, is nearing the end of its production phase. Principle photography began in December 2015 in the USA and will wrap on 1 July 2017 in Lithuania.
VILNIUS: A Lithuanian/German documentary coproduction Hello, Dear Granny!/ Liebe Oma, Guten Tag! directed by two sisters, Jūratė Samulionytė and Vilma Samulionytė, is in postproduction. The release is planned for November 2017.
VILNIUS: The prominent Lithuanian documentarian Audrius Stonys is in production with Baltic New Wave, working together with Latvian director Kristine Briede. Their new film about Baltic documentary filmmakers from the Soviet times was chosen as one of the winners at Meeting Point - Vilnius industry screenings. It will be shown at Cannes industry screenings this May.
VILNIUS: The Last Family, the debut feature by Jan P. Matuszyński, won Best Film in the New Europe – New Names Competition of the 22nd Vilnius International Film Festival Kino Pavasaris, which wrapped on 6 April 2017.
