FNE spoke with 2019 Producer on the Move Inese Boka-Grūbe representing Latvia. She has been a partner and producer at Mistrus Media since 2008, and has produced a number of films, including most recently the historic drama The Mover directed by Dāvis Sīmanis, which had its international premiere at the Moscow IFF 2019, and Latvia's entry for the Oscars, the documentary To Be Continued directed by Ivars Seleckis.
RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia awarded 1,110,401 EUR in grants to 14 films on 15 April 2019.
RIGA: Class Reunion / Klases salidojums directed by Andrejs Ēķis and produced by Platforma Filma is the leading domestic film at the Latvian Box office. After six weeks it has 68,075 admissions and 346,134 EUR gross, ranking second after the Hollywood animation hit How to Train Your Dragon 3. The film is a remake of the Danish hit The Reunion (2011) by Niels Nørløv.
Latvia’s film programme for the country’s centenary, which was celebrated in 2018, has led to an unheard of box office success and has shown an unprecedented rise in local box office, marking the local share of up to almost 19% of the market compared to 5.7% previously.
RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia will allot less money for minority coproductions, but more for the incentives programme in 2019.
Riga: The National Film Centre of Latvia will distribute 1,240,417 EUR for the production of four family films.
RIGA: Admissions to Latvian films reached 290,000 in the first half of 2018, marking an already record year for domestic cinema. In 2017 admissions to domestic films were 194,000.
RIGA: Three of the top five films at the Latvian box office are domestic releases, accounting for 28 percent of the market share. The boom is led by Aigars Grauba’s historic drama The Pagan King produced by Platforma Filma, Oskars Rupenheit’s debut feature The Foundation of Criminal Excellence produced by COMETE Films, OrderOrder and Jura Podnieka Studija, and Madara Dišlere’s family film Paradise ‘89 produced by Tasse Film.
RIGA: The National Film Center of Latvia will distribute 927,294 EUR for the production of 12 feature films with Latvian major participation. Three animated films, two feature films and seven documentaries are supported.
RIGA: Juris Kursietis is currently shooting his sophomore feature Oleg, a drama about a butcher who leaves for Brussels to work in a local meat factory, but gets under the control of a Polish criminal. The film is a Latvian/Lithuanian/Belgian coproduction with an international cast.
