BUDAPEST: The National Film Institute – Hungary has distributed 5,381,199 EUR / 1.86 billion HUF for the production of three projects and 94.6 m HUF / 273,689 EUR for the preproduction of two projects. Orphan, the new feature film by László Nemes, is among the projects receiving production grants.
BUDAPEST: The acclaimed Hungarian animation director, graphic artist, book illustrator and cultural historian Marcell Jankovics died at the age of 79. He was a key figure in the Hungarian culture and an internationally recognised artist of Hungarian animation.
PRODUCTION: Hungarian Historical Adventure Hadik Receives Record Production Grant
Hungary 24-05-2021BUDAPEST: The historical adventure film Hadik by János Szikora, which is currently in preproduction, received 4.6 m EUR / 1.6 billion HUF from the National Film Institute – Hungary, one of the largest production grants ever allotted in Hungary. The film depicts the bold military maneuver of András Hadik, who occupied Berlin with his hussars in 1757.
BUDAPEST: The Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, the annual showcase of Hungarian cinema, will take place this year in Veszprém, Balatonfüred and Balatonalmádi from 23 to 26 June. Its predecessor, the Hungarian Film Week, was traditionally held in Budapest, but this year the National Film Institute – Hungary and the organisers of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme have reimagined the annual celebration of the Hungarian cinema.
BUDAPEST: Sovereign Film Distribution has acquired the rights to Treasure City / Békeidő for the United Kingdom and Ireland. "Sovereign Films joined the film when we were working on the script. Sovereign Film Distribution is connected to them", director Szabolcs Hajdu told FNE. Treasure City is an independent coproduction between Hungary, Romania, Switzerland and UK.
BUDAPEST: Two animated films received production grants from the National Film Institute – Hungary. Director Marcell Jankovics is making a film version of his Toldi series based on János Arany’s popular epic poem. Tony, Shelly and the Spirit directed by Filip Pošivač is a stop motion animation set in Christmas time and made for families.
BUDAPEST: Focus Features has bought the worldwide distribution rights to Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. The British/Hungarian coproduction is directed by Anthony Fabian, who has Hungarian roots and has recently become a Hungarian citizen. This is the first time when Focus Features acquires a Hungarian coproduction.
BUDAPEST: The spy series Balaton Brigade produced by Gábor Krigler for Joyrider won the Berlinale Co-Pro Series on 2 March 2021. This was the first time that a Hungarian project has been invited to the pitching forum. The Series Mania Project Exchange Award also includes an invitation to present the series at the Séries Mania Forum, which runs 20 August and 1 September 2020 in Lille, France.
BUDAPEST: The National Film Institute – Hungary has announced over 500,000 EUR in a production grant for one feature film, a pre-production grant for one feature film and development grants for eight feature films.
FNE at Berlinale 2021: Bence Fliegauf Competes for Golden Bear with Forest - I See You Everywhere
Hungary 22-02-2021BUDAPEST: Bence Fliegauf’s newest film Forest – I See You Everywhere / Rengeteg – Mindenhol látlak has been invited to the Main Competition of the 71. Berlin International Film Festival, which opens on 1 March 2021. Natural Light / Természetes fény directed by Dénes Nagy also screens at Berlinale. This is the first time two Hungarian features compete for the Golden Bear.
