ZAGREB: The children's film My Grandpa is an Alien by Drazen Zarkovic and Marina Andree Skop is currently in preparation with the shooting set for 2017. The film is a Croatian/Czech/Bosnian coproduction.
TBILISI: Praveen Sattaru's feature film PSV Garuda Vega is currently shooting in Georgia. The project benefits of the cash rebate scheme launched in Georgia at the beginning of 2016.
COTTBUS: Georgian director Nino Basilia’s debut feature Anna’s Life (previously under the working title The Naked) is one of a pair of Georgian films selected for the main competition of the 26th Cottbus Film Festival, which runs through 13 November 2016.
BUCHAREST: Two Romanian comedies released this autumn, #selfie 69 by Cristina Iacob and Two Lottery Tickets by Paul Negoescu, are topping the domestic box office, together taking in 927,129 EUR / 4,171,777 RON so far.
ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre allotted 264,253EUR / 1,984,690 HRK for short film production grants as well as script and project development grants.
COTTBUS: Dogs / Câini, the debut feature of Bogdan Mirică, which won the FIPRESCI Award in Cannes's Un Certain Regard, screens in the main competition of the 26th Cottbus Film Festival, which runs 8-13 November 2016. The film also won the main prize of the Transilvania IFF and has been nominated for the 2016 European Discovery-Prix FIPRESCI.
SIBIU: Changa Revisited by Peter Biella and Leonard Kammerling was awarded best film in the international competition of the 23rd edition of ASTRA Film Festival (17-23 October 2016) in Sibiu, Romania. ASTRA Film Festival is one of the most important documentary showcases in Eastern Europe.
CLUJ-NAPOCA: Japanese director Sion Sono is currently shooting an untitled fantasy series in Cluj-Napoca, a town he fell in love with after visiting it as a guest of the 15th edition of Transilvania IFF. The project should propel the Transilvania Film Fund, established in 2010 but in need of a boost from the local authorities.
BUCHAREST: Low budget comedy Two Lottery Tickets by Paul Negoescu had the most successful opening for a Romanian film in 26 years with 27,182 admissions and 424,926 RON gross. The previous record of 25,121 admissions was set by the youth comedy #selfie69 (Zazu film) by Cristina Iacob, released on 16 September 2016.
BUCHAREST: Cristian Mungiu’s Graduation will be released in 12 more territories until the end of 2016. The film started its international career after winning Best Director Award ex-aequo at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
