FNE: Why did you become a documentary film producer?
Rea Rajčić: I've become a documentary film producer for the same reason I decided to be a producer in general: to try to make good stories more visible.
FNE: What is the biggest practical issue that you have to deal with in your own country as a documentary film producer?
Rea Rajčić: Inconsistency of the national funding system, the existence of indirect (and direct) political censorship and the lack of transparency and a low number of projects supported by the national TV broadcaster.
FNE: What are the crucial topics that you explore as a documentary film producer?
Rea Rajčić: I'm currently exploring our lack of ability and skills to detect the real truth in the media (e.g. fake news, mocumentaries, social media, marketing, artificial intelligence, etc.) This topic is in focus because of the documentary series that we are currently producing, Collages of Lies.
FNE: Do you have a project that you are bringing to Emerging Producers in search of coproducers and partners?
Rea Rajčić: Yes, I would like to talk with possible partners about a few projects that I'm developing: the magical poetic feature documentary Frane Zanki to be directed by Marcella Zanki, a young and prospective Croatian director; and also 1001 Nights, a short observational and witty documentary about my 85 years old aunt Ema and her best friend Maja during their evening routine of watching Turkish soap operas. Both projects have been supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
FNE: What is the most important thing a potential partner/coproducer should know about you?
Rea Rajčić: Besides production, Eclectica is also a post-production company experienced in colour grading, editing and mastering. This makes us an effective and flexible partner.
