BACKSTAGE follows a group of young people from a small town, whose friendships are tested when they get selected to compete in a big television dance show.
The film directed by Andrea Sedláčková was shot in 2016 and 2017 in Slovakia, produced by Silvia Panáková and Erik Panák trough their company ARINA in coproduction with BONTONFILM, Radio and Television of Slovakia, and In Vestito, with a budget of 1,350,000 EUR. The film was supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Czech Film Fund. BACKSTAGE was developed within the MIDPOINT Intensive SK Intensive SK programme.
"It is a thrilling dance film full of energy, dance, passion and music, a film about young people for young people; a film about their dreams, ambitions and the everlasting importance of family and friendship," Panák told FNE.
The scipt was co-written by Naďa Clontz and Andrea Sedláčková. The DoP’s were Tomáš Juríček and Tomáš Stanek. The cast includes Mária Havranová, Tony Porucha, Ondrej Hraška, Kryštof Hádek, Ivana Chýlková, Judit Bárdos and Roman Luknár.
BACKSTAGE premiered in Slovakia on 15 March 2018 distributed by BONTONFILM with 60,000 admissions.
