The film is a road movie about friendship, adventure and great freedom, and follows two boys who travel across the whole republic in a stolen car.

Winter Flies / Zimske muhe is a coproduction between the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, France and Poland, and it was produced by endorfilm in coproduction with the Czech Television, Punkchart Films, Koskino, Cvinger Film, Rouge International. The project was supported by the Polish Film Institute, the Czech Film Centre, the Slovak Film Institute and the Slovenian Film Center.

The Foreign Language Film category shortlist will be announced on 22 January 2019 and the 91st Academy Awards will be held on 24 February 2019.
