The Mighty Angel, one of the most significant contemporary Polish novels, published in 2000, deals with alcohol addiction through the first person narrative of a struggling intellectual. Smarzowski wrote the script for the film, retitled Angel.

"Wojciech asked the author Jerzy Pilch to read the script, but the writer refused, saying that he has complete confidence in him. He just wants to come to the premiere and see the film," Jacek Rzechak, the producer of the film, told FNE.

The shoot for Angel is planned for October 2012. The film is produced by Profil Film Jacek Rzehak with a budget of 6.4 million PLN (EUR 1.5 million). The production received 2.5 million PLN in financing from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and 600,000 PLN from the Krakow Regional Film Fund (www.film-commission.pl). The leading role will be played by Robert Więckiewicz, one of Poland's most in-demand actors. This year he was awarded with the Best Male Performance Prizes at the 37th Gdynia Film Festival (www.fpff.pl) as well as the Polish Eagles 2012 (www.pnf.pl) for his role in Agnieszka Holland's In Darkness, and he was cast by Andrzej Wajda to play Lech Wałesa in his highly anticipated biopic about the Polish political leader. In Angel he will be accompanied by a cast of Smarzowski's favourite actors: Andrzej Grabowski, Kinga Preis, Marian Dziędziel and Arkadiusz Jakubik.

Smarzowski is currently completing post-production on 7 Days produced by Film It (www.filmit.com.pl) in co-production with Agorą SA (www.agora.pl), Telekomunikacja Polską SA (www.tp.pl) and Canal+ (www.canalplus.pl). The film, shot from February to April 2012, follows a week in the life of a crew of road policemen and is loosely connected to the symbolism of seven deadly sins.
