1. What are your hopes and expectations from Emerging Producers?
To find coproducing partners under more relaxed, yet professional circumstances. Also to bounce ideas and view-points with new fellow colleagues.
2. What are YOU bringing to Emerging Producers?
A range of projects in the catalogue (and new ideas in my mind) suitable for international coproduction. I also hope to give useful input and good energy.
3. What is the position of documentary film in your country?
Documentary films are regarded very highly in Poland and have always been. This is reflected in the educational and funding system, the film industry itself, and the audience.
4. What are the coproduction possibilities for documentary producers in your country?
Especially since the birth of the Polish Film Institute as we know it today, the possibilities for coproduction are very good and even encouraged by the system.
5. What are your thoughts on the system of funding of documentary films today?
The development stage is well supported both nationally and on the European level (MEDIA), which is extremely important if you wish to sustain a continuous, innovative and multi-faced documentary market in Europe. The production and distribution stages are, however, very challenging for the producer. With cuts in TV budgets and limited profit from most distribution forms, you are constantly forced to seek new ways and to deliver much more than “just” the film.
6. Which producer is your inspiration and ideal?
The one that can both handle a complex international coproduction from the technical and practical side, and still be a creative and supportive partner of the director throughout the whole process.
