Slajer told FNE that the film will be a Czech/Slovak/Polish coproduction produced by Bionaut and its partner branches in Slovakia and Poland. He added that he and the director were pitching it for the first time at the Warsaw Kids Film Forum, a growing young event which has become a magnet for children’s live action and animated film producers, funders and buyers.
The 2 m EUR film is aimed at the pre-teen audience and will be the debut feature of the director, who has built a reputation as a director of music videos and commercials. The film is scheduled to be shot in the summer of 2021 and released in 2022. The producers Vratislav Slajer and Ludka Kierczak are looking at adding elements to create a 360-degree experience around the project.
The story, described as “Astrid Lundgrin meets Jules Verne”, is set in a part of a city (Prague) where life stopped progressing in the 19th century, a pre-industrial area without electricity. Electronic devices shut down once they enter the area. When the limits of the Dustzone begin to spread and threaten to overtake the whole city, a 13-year-old boy and his two best friends (a girl and another boy) set out on a mission to discover the secret of the Dustzone and stop its dark progress.
The project is seeking funding, coproducers, sales agents, distributors and TV stations.
The Warsaw Kids Film Forum was sponsored by FNE and CEI (Central European Initiative). For the full list of all sponsors go to Warsaw Kids Film Forum.
