Katyn leads nominations for Polish Eagles

Andrzej Wajda's Katyń, an Academy Award nominee, led the list of nominations announced Monday (Feb. 4) for the 10^th edition of the Eagles, the Polish equivalent of the Oscars. Katyń is in the running for best film along with Tricks directed by Andrzej Jakimowski and Time to Die by Dorota Kędzierzawska. The winners will be announced March 3.

Katyń was nominated in 11 categories, while Tricks drew seven nominations, as did the 2006 film Several People, Little Time directed by Andrzej Baranski. Time to Die got five nominations and Rezerwat by Lukasz Palkowski got four.

Nominations were made in 16 categories, including a new category that awards new film discoveries.

The awards are determined by the Polish Film Academy and backed by the Ministry of Culture and the Polish Film Institute. Katyń is also up for the Oscar for best foreign-language film.
