Tudor Giurgiu’s Why Me?/De ce eu?, a thriller inspired by the mysterious death of a Romanian prosecutor Cristian Panait in 2002, will have its world premiere in Panorama Special. The film was produced by Libra Film in coproduction with Romania’s Hai-Hui Entertainment, Bulgaria’s Chouchkov Brothers and Hungary’s Cor Leonis Films. It was supported by the Romanian National Film Centre, the Bulgarian National Film Center, Eurimages, MEDIA Programme and SEE Cinema Network. HBO Romania is also involved. Emilian Oprea, Mihai Constantin, Andreea Vasile and Dan Condurache are playing the main characters.
Alanté Kavaïté’s The Summer of Sangailé/Sangailė will be screened in the main programme of the Berlinale Panorama. This coming-of-age story about a teenager fascinated by planes but afraid of flying will have its European premiere in Berlin a couple of days after its world premiere in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition of Sundance Film Festival.
The film was produced by Lithuania’s Fralita Films and France’s Les Films d’Antoine in coproduction with Netherlands’s Viking Film. The cast includes Julija Steponaityté, Martynas Budraitis, Juraté Sodyté and Aistė Diržiūtė, who was selected for the European Shooting Stars 2015.
Veronika Liskova’s Daniel’s World/DanielůvSvět will have its international premiere in Panorama Dokumente. The documentary, which tackles the disturbing topic of paedophilia, already received the Audience Prize at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival in 2014.
The film was produced by a Czech company Vernes in coproduction with HBO Europe and Czech TV.
