She scored international hits with her earlier films, Journey to the Sun and San Sebastian winner Pandora’s Box.
The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section (Ustaoglu, an important figure in the 90’s generation of Turkish filmmakers, served on the Venice fest jury ten years ago) and will be screened at the 50th New York Film Festival as well.
The film is a love story about two desperate people and is set around a gas station. Their connection is broken when an outsider enters the picture, getting between them. The film’s lead actor Ozcan Deniz is a popular traditional singer popular who made his directorial debut last year. The cinematographer is Michael Hammon, known for the films of Andreas Dresen.
