FESTIVALS: Twelve Films Screen in the Malatya IFF International Competition

    MALATYA: The 7th Malatya IFF is increasing its international profile, with 12 films selected for this year’s International Competition. The festival kicks off on 9 November 2017 and runs through 16 November.

    The films run the gamut from debuts to high-profile Turkish films to internationally awarded auteur films.

    The international selection includes Cargo by rising Belgian director Gilles Coulier; the Berlin-awarded Centaur by feted Kyrgyz director Aktan Arym Kubat; Life and Nothing More by Antonio Mendez Esparza; Pomegranate Orchard from Azerbaijan and directed by Ilgar Najaf; and Son of Sofia by Elina Psikou.

    Turkey is represented by three films: Grain directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu and starring Jean-Marc Barr; More by actor-turned-director Onur Saylak; and Blue Silence, a coproduction with Belgium directed by Bülent Öztürk.

    The debut films include two Iranian films: Blockage directed by Mohsen Gharaei and Mothering by Roqiye Tavakoli; Dede by Georgian director Mariam Khatchvani and Pele Janela – A Window to Rosalia by Caroline Leone.
