FESTIVALS: Malatya IFF National Competition

    MALATYA: Twelve films from Turkey are screening in the National Competition at the Malatya International Film Festival, which opens on 9 November 2017 and runs through 16 November in the Eastern Anatolia city.

    The selection includes the post-apocalyptic film Grain directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu and starring Jean-Marc Barr. Actor Onur Saylak makes his feature film directing debut with More, which was in competition at the Karlovy Vary IFF.

    The Cannes award-winning director/cinematographer Orhan Oğuz brings his new film Minus One. Pelin Esmer, who won a best documentary directing prize at the Tribecca festival, will show his feature film Something Useful. The crime comedy The Bank of Broken Hearts was directed by poet/musician/hit TV series director Onur Ünlü.

    Other films in the competition are Serial Cook by award-winning writer/director Ümit Ünal; Orhan Eskiköy with his Karlovy Vary East of the West competition film Stone, and Zer by the Montreal grand prix winning director Kazım Öz.

    The competition also includes the debut films Murtaza by Özgür Sevimli, Yellow Heat by Fikret Reyhan, the documentary Brothers of Silence by Taylan Mintaş and Confrontation by Nejla Demirci.
