SPLIT: Branko Karabatić, the founder and director of the Split Film Festival, died last week from the consequences of a stroke he had at the end of this year’s edition of the festival (12 – 21 October 2023).

ZAGREB: Bosnian Oscar winner director Danis Tanović has wrapped shooting of his new feature film After the Summer, a regional coproduction involving Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Romania.

ZAGREB: Six of the 10 films selected for the main programme of the 21th edition of the Zagreb Film Festival (6 – 12 November 2023) come from FNE partner countries. The main programme includes eight films competing for the Golden Pram and two films out of the competition.

ZAGREB: Nenad Cvetko, one of the best known Croatian actors, died on 10 October 2023 at 53 years of age, following a long struggle with throat cancer.

ZAGREB: Over the past 11 years, 122 foreign film and TV projects spent 263 m EUR in Croatia, while using the incentives provided through the Filming in Croatia programme of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC).

ZAGREB: The acclaimed Croatian writer/director Rajko Grlić has started shooting It All Ends Here / Svemu dođe kraj, the final film of a 50-years career in which he wrote 27 scripts and directed 30 films. It All Ends Here is a coproduction between Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Serbia and Montenegro.

ZAGREB: The filming of the feature biopic Something Stronger Than Me - The Story of Dražen Petrović / Nešto jače od mene - priča o Draženu Petroviću directed by Danilo Šerbedžija, produced by Croatia’s Kinoteka in coproduction with  RTG Pictures (USA), Living Pictures (Serbia) and December (Slovenia) began in the Croatian city of Šibenik on 22 September 2023.

ZAGREB: Seven years after its arrival in Croatia, the streaming platform Netflix welcomed the first Croatian film in its catalogue in August 2023 and on 15 September 2023 the biggest Croatian distributor Blitz announced the sale of the first package of 12 contemporary Croatian films to Netflix.

ZAGREB: Five minority coproductions will be co-financed by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) in the total amount of 160,000 EUR, based on the third round of this year’s Public Call for Minority Coproductions.

ZAGREB: The 22-episode TV series The Highlands created by Maja Pek-Brünjes and Danijel Pek, and produced by Antitalent for the Croatian Radiotelevision is now in postproduction. The series directed by Mladen Dizdar, Aldo Tardozzi and Radislav Jovanov Gonzo was filmed for 98 days from May to August 2023.
