BRATISLAVA: Men Don’t Cry by Alen Drljević is the lone entry from CEE territories among the eight films competing at the 19th edition of IFF Bratislava. The main competition focuses on first and second films of young directors. The festival will be held 9 - 16 November 2017 in Bratislava, Senec, Modra and Malacky.
BRATISLAVA: Barbara Janišová Feglová represents Slovakia at the Emerging Producers 2018 programme taking place at the Jihlava IDFF.
BRATISLAVA: The cinematographer of A Prominent Patient Martin Štrba won the main IGRIC award for feature film in cinemas. The ceremony for the 28th edition of IGRIC awards for best Slovak films in 2016 was held in Bratislava’s Malá scéna on 28 September 2017.
PIEŠŤANY: Raw by Julia Ducournau was awarded best international feature film at the 12th Cinematik IFF (which took place in the spa city of Piešťany from 12 to 17 September 2017). A Hole in the Head by Robert Kirchhoff won the domestic documentary competitive section Cinematik.doc.
BRATISLAVA: Distinguished Slovak scriptwriter, feature film and documentary director Vladimír Balco passed away on 31 August 2017 at the age of 68.
PIEŠŤANY: Ten films will vie in the main competition of the 12th Cinematik International Film Festival, set to take place in the spa city of Piešťany from 12 to 17 September 2017. The domestic competitive section Cinematik.doc will screen seven documentaries produced in the past two years.
BRATISLAVA: The crime thriller The Line / Čiara by Peter Bebjak has broken the record for the Slovak box office on its opening weekend. Released on 3 August 2017, the film had the strongest opening weekend in Slovak history with 69,242 admissions.
BRATISLAVA: Slovak films experienced a massive increase in admissions in the first half of 2017.
BRATISLAVA: Peter Bebjak is preparing to shoot his fifth feature film, the comedy / drama Emil at end of 2017. Bebjak was recently awarded best director at Karlovy Vary IFF for the Slovak / Ukrainian drama The Line.
BRATISLAVA: The 4m EUR two-episode biopic Maria Theresia by the Austrian director Robert Dornhelm is moving to postproduction. This Slovak / Czech / Austrian / Hungarian coproduction is set to be broadcast on RTVS during the Christmas holiday in 2017. This is the biggest coproduction in the history of Slovakia’s public television.
