SKOPJE: The Government of North Macedonia approved financial support for film workers affected by COVID-19 at its 11 December 2020 session. The new package of measures includes 24,948,000 MKD / 404,529 EUR for artists and film workers, among others.

SKOPJE: The acclaimed Macedonian film and TV actor and producer Dancho Chevrevski died on 29 October 2020 in Skopje at age 69.

SKOPJE: The French drama Gagarine directed by Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh scooped the best film award in the official selection of the 19th Cinedays Festival of European Film, which ran from 18 to 24 September 2020 at nine open air locations in Skopje.

SKOPJE: The only multiplex cinema in North Macedonia, Cineplexx will reopen its doors on 24 September 2020, more than six months after the closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This follows the Government's decision to allow the reopening of cinemas under the Protocol for organisation of events, adopted on 22 September 2020.

SKOPJE: More than 40 films will be screened at the Cinedays Festival of European Film, running 18-24 September at nine open air locations in Skopje. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the festival is being held two months earlier than its regular November dates, with a reduced programme lasting fewer days.

SKOPJE: Irena Stefoska was appointed the Minister of Culture of North Macedonia by the Parliament on 31 August 2020. She took over ministerial duties from Husni Ismaili. 

SKOPJE: The 23rd edition of the Skopje Film Festival, which was due in April, kicks off on 9 September 2020 with open-air screenings, due to COVID-19 restrictions. This edition, which is held until 16 September 2020, will only take place in the open-air cinema of the Cinematheque of North Macedonia, with a limited number of seats and under strict measures.

SKOPJE: The 41st edition of the International Cinematographers` Film Festival Manaki BrothersBrothers won`t be held in its traditional form this year due to the COVID pandemic, but will be celebrated by a formal one-hour event in Bitola on 19 September 2020 as well as several online activities which won't include the online competition screenings.

SKOPJE: The Austrian/French documentary Epicentro by Hubert Sauper won the Onion Award for best film in the main competition of the 11th edition of MakeDox Creative Documentary Film Festival, whose open-air screenings began on 19 and ended on 26 August 2020. The festival will continue online until 20 September 2020.
