The North Macedonia Film Agency distributed 1,160,975 EUR / 71,400,000 MKD within the first deadline in 2021 for production grants for feature, short, animation films, and documentaries.

SKOPJE: Hive by Blerta Basholli, a coproduction between Kosovo, Switzerland, North Macedonia and Albania, won the Golden Star, the main prize in the Official Competition of the 20th Cinedays Festival of European Film, which took place 15-21 July 2021.

SKOPJE:  Cineplexx cinema group will open the second multiplex in North Macedonia at the brand-new Skopje East Gate shopping center in Skopje. The cinema is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2021.

SKOPJE: More than 40 films will be screened at the 20th edition of Cinedays Festival of European Film, running 15-21 July 2021 at eight locations in Skopje under the slogan Film factor. Post Covid-19, the festival is being held four months earlier than its regular November dates, with a reduced programme lasting fewer days.

SKOPJE: The Academy Award nominated Macedonian film director Milcho Manchevski started shooting his seventh feature film Kaymak, produced by Banana Film, in Skopje. The shooting, which started on 6 July 2021, will last for five weeks on five locations in the capital.

SKOPJE: The North Macedonia Film Agency will present the latest Macedonian films at the 74th Film Market in Cannes, at the South-East European Pavilion no. 133, traditionally visited by a large number of guests and professionals from the film industry, representatives of national film centres and agencies.

SKOPJE: Actor Simeon Moni Damevski has been appointed as artistic director of the International Cinematographers Film Festival Manaki Brothers. The new director has announced that the 42nd edition of the festival will be held for six days in the second half of September 2021 in a hybrid format.

SKOPJE: Cinema Milenium in Skopje is reopening its doors on 17 June 2021 after being closed for six months. This decision comes while the country has been registering the lowest COVID-19 infection rates for a month.

SKOPJE: Denmark`s LevelK will manage the international sales for John Vardar vs. the Galaxy, the first Macedonian long animated film, written and directed by Goce Cvetanovski. The film is currently in postproduction and in line with the global distribution strategy. The premiere is expected in 2023.

SKOPJE: Open-air cinemas are gradually beginning to reopen in North Macedonia and film festivals are starting to release their dates after the long hibernation since the autumn of 2020. The first to break the ice is the Philosophical Film Festival, which will take place in Skopje as a hybrid edition from 27 May to 3 June 2021.
