GRANTS: Latvia Funds Three Coproductions

    RIGA: The National Film Center of Latvia chose three projects to support with coproduction grants totaling 350,399 EUR, financing two fiction films and a TV documentary series.

    The biggest grant 200,300 EUR goes to the documentary TV series Age of Iron coproduced by France (Slot Machine) and Latvia (Film Angels Studio). The six-episode series looks at the story of the Thirty Years' War in the 17th Century. Following the destiny of real characters, the documentary explores one of the most dramatic turns of European history guided by religious fanaticism and nationalism, reflecting current affairs.

    A grant of 80,000 EUR goes to feature film Outside, coproduced by Latvia (Tasse Film) and the Czech Republic (Negativ s.r.o.). It is a surreal story about a Czech girl working abroad as a nanny. The protagonist has to put up with the family’s violent attitude towards children.

    The final grant of 70,100 has been given to the Russian (Kinodom) and Latvian (Forma Pro Films) coproduction Van Gogi, a comedy which turns into a drama, about the relationship between mother and son in a Jewish family.
