The film received the Kingfisher Award for “Showing the emergence of an unusual, tragic friendship by tackling the crucial issues of ethics and morals that are both contemporary and eternal with an elaborate cinematic expression and intimate, intelligently directed mood.”
The special mention went to A Stranger, a coproduction from Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia directed by Bobo Jelčić. The film was coproduced by Croatian Radiotelevision with funding from the Croatian Audiovisual Center. The jury, consisting of Croatian director Lordan Zafranovic, Nejc Gazvoda of Slovenia, and Tiziana Finzi of Italy, praised it as “a subtle tragedy about human helplessness that entraps the viewer as it had the main character. With each laugh raised by the masterfully directed scenes of everyday absurdity the film almost unnoticeably leads us into the protagonist’s cage, where we are left in the end – thus achieving more than it would have if the door had been left open.”
The remaining awards handed out at the closing ceremony were:
FIPRESCI Prize: Salvo directed by Antonio Piazza
Best Short Film: Terrarium directed by Hana Jušić (Croatia)
Short Film Special Mention: Premature directed by Gunhild Enger (Norway)
The Dragon Audience Award: Call Girl directed by Mikael Marcimain (Sweden)
