BELGRADE: The Serbian director Nenad Milošević is currently in production with his second film, the documentary/fiction hybrid Before the Noise / Pred buku. This Serbian/Bosnian coproduction is narrated by the actor Boris Isaković, famous in Serbia and the region.

BELGRADE: Serbian drama mini-series The Family by Bojan Vuletić, which has recently won the Heart of Sarajevo for best drama series and best leading actor (Boris Isaković) at the Sarajevo FF and which has been sold to North America to the OTT service MHz Choice, is reaping the benefits of the arduous work of the Belgrade-based Firefly Productions.

BELGRADE: The 56 edition of the Film Encounters Festival / Filmski susreti is currently running in the city of Niš from 21 to 27 August 2021. The oldest feature film festival in Serbia has focused from the beginning solely on acting performances in national feature films and it showcases four national premieres this year.

BELGRADE: New York-based distribution company Grasshopper has acquired USA non-theatrical and digital distributions rights for Marta Poivoda’s long documentary Landcapes of Resistance / Pejzaži otpora. The French/Serbian/German coproduction was awarded the Heart of Sarajevo for best documentary at the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival.

BELGRADE: Production of the feature titled Sweet Sorrow / Žal started in Belgrade on July 28. It is being directed by Serbian helmer Kosta Đorđević, it marks his third feature film and it is being done as a coproduction between Serbia and Croatia.

BELGRADE: The 28th edition of the European Film Festival Palić in the north region of Serbia, which wrapped on 23 July 2021, awarded it top prize to the Norwegian film The Worst Person in the World. The Serbian film Bad Blood won the Audience Award.

BELGRADE:The 28th edition of the European Film Festival Palić will take place in its traditional midsummer slot, from 17 to 23 July 2021 at Palić Lake and the nearby town of Subotica in the north of Serbia. More than 130 films will be screened and presented in 15 programme sections, focusing exclusively on European productions. This year’s edition is once again organised by the Open University Subotica / Otvoreni univerzitet Subotica.

BELGRADE: The American/Serbian erotic thriller Personal Trainer by Stephen Riscica, starring Fanny Ardant, is currently scouting for locations in Serbia. It will be the first English-language LGBTQ+ production to be shot in Serbia and the Eastern Europe. The production plans to use the Serbian incentive scheme for foreign productions.

BELGRADE: Serbian SoulFood has acquired world sales rights for Stefan Arsenijević’s new feature film As Far As I Can Walk / Strahinja Banović, ahead of its world premiere in the main competition programme of the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (20-28 August 2021).

BELGRADE: The digitally restored version of the Serbian and Yugoslav classic film Who’s Singin’ Over There? / Ko to tamo peva (1980) directed by Slobodan Šijan has racked up 3,000 admissions in France, where it opened in 12 cinemas on 19 May 2021.
