BRATISLAVA: The 6th Slovak Film Week, the showcase of domestic production, will take place this year in a reduced online form on 20-26 October 2020. Selected films will also be screened at the Lumiere cinema's online platform until 10 November.
BRATISLAVA: Slovak cinema operators, who were stunned by the government’s decision to close them for a second time as of 15 October 2020, will receive 500,000 EUR as a part of the extraordinary 11 m EUR aid package of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic for independent culture. The Slovak Audiovisual Fund has decided to allot this amount from the 700,000 EUR support it received from Ministry of Culture.
BRATISLAVA: Cinemas will be closed in Slovakia as of 15 October 2020 due to a significant increase in the number of new COVID-19 infections. The stricter measures, which were taken on 11 October, decree that all mass events, including public cultural events, visits to cinemas, theatres, and other art performances, are prohibited.
BRATISLAVA: Febiofest will last only one day, Wednesday 30 September 2020, due to the increase of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Slovak Prime Minister announced the tightening of measures and a ban on cultural events only two days before the planned opening of the festival. After the cancelation of the 27th IFF Febiofest in March 2020, the festival was supposed to take place on an alternate date from 30 September to 4 October 2020.
BRATISLAVA: Known Unknown / Známi neznámi, the feature debut of young Slovak director Zuzana Marianková, is entering postproduction. The remake of the 2016 Italian blockbuster Perfect Strangers is produced by Wandal Production, which has acquired rights for Slovakia and the Czech Republic, with the adaptation of the screenplay by Petr Jarchovský.
BRATISLAVA: Noro Držiak was awarded the main IGRIC prize for directing The Impossible Voyage / Cesta do nemožna at the ceremony of the 31st edition of the annual national film prizes, which took place under hygienic measures in Bratislava on 20 September 2020.
PIEŠŤANY: The intimate Russian drama Beanpole / Dylda directed by Kantemir Balagov received the Meeting Point Europe award in the main competition of the 15th IFF Cinematik Piešťany. The festival took place in the spa city of Piešťany from 10 to 15 September 2020.
BRATISLAVA: The drama Let There Be Light / Nech je svetlo was awarded best feature film at the Sun in a Net Awards 2020, organised by the Slovak Film and Television Academy . The second feature directed by Marko Škop also received prizes for best director, screenplay, actor and actress in the leading role.
BRATISLAVA: Juraj Lehotský is starting production of his third feature drama Applause / Potlesk.
PIEŠŤANY: Nine feature films have been selected under the auspices of FIPRESCI for Meeting Point Europe, the main competition of the 15th IFF Cinematik Piešťany. The festival will take place in the spa city of Piešťany from 10 to 15 September 2020.
