BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Romanian/Czech/Irish coproduction Servants / Služobníci directed by Ivan Ostrochovský leads the 11th Sun in a Net awards nominations with 12 nods, followed by The Man with Hare Ears / Muž so zajačími ušami by Martin Šulík and 107 Mothers / Cenzorka by Peter Kerekes, both with 11 nods. The awards will be announced on 9 April 2022.

BRATISLAVA: This year's on-site edition of the Visegrad Film Forum will take place at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and in the Lumière Cinema in Bratislava from 16 to 19 March 2022. The event will host renowned filmmakers Jim Stark and Eddy Joseph.

BRATISLAVA: The Czech/Slovak documentary about an internationally recognised artist of Slovak origin Jan Mancuska: You Will Never See It All / Chýbanie directed by Štěpán Pech is currently in production. The film received the Eurimages grant in December 2021.

BRATISLAVA: Ivan Hronec is a founder and CEO of Film Europe, which distributes award-winning films selected from European productions and international festivals. He is also an exhibitor with two famous art house cinemas as well as the operator of the Film Europe TV Channel and VOD platform Edsonline, giving him a unique overview of both the exhibition and distribution sectors.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak distributors recovered some momentum during the second half of 2021, releasing several long-awaited domestic titles, which had been waiting to premiere since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as several new titles.

BRATISLAVA: The 7th Slovak Film Week started on 29 November in a reduced online format due to the current pandemic situation and the curfew which recently went into effect. The event is running on the Cinema at Home platform until 5 December 2021.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak government declared a state of emergency and a curfew on 24 November 2021 with effect from 25 November 2021, due to the rapidly deteriorating pandemic situation in Slovakia. Cinemas will be temporarily closed.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Mariana Čengel Solčanská is moving into postproduction on the Slovak/Czech historical drama The Chambermaid / Slúžka. The film is based on Hana Lasicová’s bestseller published in 2013 about a lesbian love story set in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak Audiovisual Fund approved on 9 November 2021 the 2022 funding of 8 m EUR, and announced its first call for support for student productions and film education, with a deadline on 6 December 2021.

BRATISLAVA: The 7th Slovak Film Week, the annual showcase of domestic film production, will take place in Bratislava from 29 November to 5 December 2021. The main programme will screen 25 Slovak films - nine features, 11 documentaries and 5 shorts - which had their releases in 2020.
