SKOPJE: Meto Jovanovski, one of the best-known Macedonian actors, died on 16 November 2023 at 77 years of age.

BITOLA: Twelve films have been selected for the Competition Camera 300 of the 44th edition of the Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers’ Film Festival, set to be held in Bitola from 23 tо 29 September 2023.

SKOPJE: The North Macedonia Film Agency distributed 1,422,764 EUR / 87.5 m MKD as production grants for feature, short, animated films, documentaries and minority coproductions in the first grant call of 2023. A total of 24 films received financial support.

SKOPJE: The Romania/Croatia/Qatari/Iranian coproduction Between Revolutions / Între revoluții by Vlad Petri received the Onion Award for best film in the main competition of the 14th edition of the MakeDox Creative Documentary Film Festival (17 – 24 August 2023). For the first time the MakeCoProDox Forum announced its awards.

OHRID: The Serbian/Croatian coproduction Have You Seen This Woman? directed by Dušan Zorić and Matija Gluscevic won the Large Wave Award for Best Film at the 6h edition of the Beach Film Festival, held in Ohrid, North Macedonia from 19 to 23 July 2023.

SKOPJE: German film The Ordinaries directed by Sophie Linnenbaum won the Golden Star in the Official Competition of the 22nd Cinedays Festival of European Film, which took place in Skopje 13-18 July 2023.

ŠTIP: A new one-screen cinema opened in Štip, North Macedonia, on 8 July 2023, being the first cinema in this town in 30 years.

TETOVO: The Romanian/Bulgarian coproduction Men of Deeds / Oameni de treabă by Paul Negoescu received the Best Film Award in the Cine Balkan Panorama Competition at the 12th edition of the Macedonian Tetovo International Film Festival ODA (TIFF ODA), which took place 4 – 8 July 2023.

SKOPJE: Director and co-writer Chie Hayakawa’s debut feature Plan 75, a coproduction between Japan, France and the Philippines, won the Golden Owl Award for Best Feature Film at the 13th Philosophical Film Festival, which took place in Skopje 2– 9 June 2022.

SKOPJE: The outdoor cinema season in North Macedonia will kick off on 31 May 2023 with the reopening of the open-air cinema of the Cinematheque of North Macedonia. Bringing a mix of classics, European titles, blockbusters and family-friendly films, there’ll be something for everyone.
