SKOPJE: US sales and distribution company Princ Films has acquired worldwide rights, excluding North Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo, to Macedonian director Goce Cvetanovski's crime thriller The Business of Pleasure / Denotnazenata, which it is introducing to buyers at the Berlinale European Film Market (16 – 22 February 2023).

SKOPJE: Kinoverzum, which already operates one facility in Sveti Nikole, North Macedonia, has opened a new cinema in Veles, thus becoming the first national cinema chain.

SKOPJE: Kaymak by Academy Award-nominated Macedonian film director Milcho Manchevski finished among the Top 10 most watched films in 2022 in North Macedonia. According to cinema reports, admissions to domestic films increased drastically in 2022, but they are far from pre-pandemic numbers.

SKOPJE: The historical drama My Mother Is a Cosmonaut / Misioni directed by Andy Deliana, produced by Albanian Red Helicopter Films in coproduction with Macedonian Dream Factory, has entered the next stage of production. The first shots of the film starring William Baldwin and Natalia Sanchez were done in Albania in November 2022.

SKOPJE: The North Macedonia Film Agency has distributed 3.2 m EUR / 198.7 m MKD as production grants for feature, short, and documentary films within the second grants call of 2022. A total of 24 films received financial support.

SKOPJE: Macedonian production company Marvi Productions released the first season of the teen series Generation Shaggy / Generacija busavi directed by Martin Chichovski on the domestic VoD platform Gley.mk. A second season is likely to be produced soon.

SKOPJE: Kaymak by Academy Award-nominated Macedonian film director Milcho Manchevski is a domestic success in North Macedonia with over 16,000 admissions after three weeks in cinemas. The Macedonian/Danish/Dutch/Croatian coproduction released on 14 November 2022 topped the Macedonian charts in its first three weeks of distribution.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director/writer Dimitar Orovcanec is currently in postproduction with his debut feature Blue Orange / Sin portokal (working title Kill the Children First), which is estimated to be finished in 2023.
