SKOPJE: Darijan Pejovski’s sophomore feature Mimi, a Macedonian/Croatian/Montenegrin coproduction between Skopje Film Studio, Maxima film and Giggling Goat Production, will open the 21st edition of the Cinedays European Film Festival, running 7-14 July 2022.

SKOPJE: The Cinematheque of North Macedonia has released the digitally restored version of the first Macedonian feature film Frosina by Vojislav Nanović on Blu-ray. This is one of the several activities organised on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the film's premiere. Frosina was the first Macedonian language film to be made.

SKOPJE: Turkish public broadcaster TRT is shooting the TV series Balkan Lullaby / Balkan Ninnisi in Skopje, directed by Doğan Ümit Karaca and serviced by the Macedonian company City Star Production. The first episode of the series already aired on TRT 1 on 21 June 2022.

SKOPJE: Director Jani Bojadzi is filming the drama thriller TV series Clear Water / Bistra voda on several locations in Skopje from 2 June to 31 July 2022. The 12 episodes are produced by Macedonian Cinnamon Media Factory in coproduction with Macedonian Alfa TV.

SKOPJE: The children's animated series Bibi’s World / Skaznitena Bibi has been sold in Croatia to NOVA TV. This is the first Macedonian animated series that will be broadcast on television outside the borders of North Macedonia. The producers said that other European broadcasters are showing interest as well.

SKOPJE: Nathalie Álvarez Mesén’s debut feature Clara Sola, a coproduction between Sweden, Costa Rica, Belgium, Germany and the United States, won the Golden Owl Award for Best Feature Film at the 12th Philosophical Film Festival, which took place in Skopje 1 – 9 June 2022.

SKOPJE: The Italian sales agent The Open Reel has acquired the rights to Eleonora Veninova’s first feature film Things Unsaid / Preeksponirano. The Macedonian/Serbian coproduction is in the final stages of postproduction and is expected to be completed by early summer of 2022.

SKOPJE: Agent 203 is the first 3D-animated series created and directed by Damjan Mitrevski of the Macedonian studio V House Animation. The German/Italian/Macedonia/Indian coproduction is currently in production and expected to premiere in 2023.

SKOPJE: Admissions to domestic films in North Macedonia declined drastically from 24,138 in 2020 to 2,652 in 2021, even though almost the same number of films were released in cinemas, 23 in 2020 and 21 in 2021.

SKOPJE: Macedonian director Agim Abdula is currently in postproduction with his debut feature Koma, a Macedonian national film, which is set to premiere by the autumn of 2022.
